‘We Are Families’ (WAF) Program


WAFP is sponsored by the Triangle LGBTQ Group, a partner of the LGBT Center of Raleigh. We work on fostering a sense of belonging by connecting LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families to one another and to local resources. The program’s objective is for participants to be their whole selves while learning with and from one another and forging new, lasting, productive and healthy relationships through supportive connections, recreational activities, workshops, support groups, and other services and resources. 


Program Features:


  • Workshops and supportive services for LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families.
  • Addresses identity, relationships, spirituality, sexuality, and other issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community members.
  • Open to all LGBTQ+ families and relationship structures/arrangements. 



LGBTQ Healthy Relationships I: The Couples Master Class - Workshop  ( More info | Pre-register )


This workshop provides the support needed for LGBTQ+ couples and families to thrive.

Unhealthy relationships can cause increased stress and difficulty in all areas of life. This free two-hour workshop is designed to help guide participants in analyzing factors that contribute to healthy relationships and to identify and correct characteristics associated with conflicted relationships. 

‍ 

Participants will:

  • learn strategies for maintaining a healthy relationship, 
  • learn to speak in one another’s love language,
  • improve communication and conflict resolution skills, and
  • discuss family roles and systems.


LGBTQ Healthy Relationships II: Couples & Families - Workshop  (Pre-register)


It’s deeper dive time! Healthy relationships provide the support needed for couples and families to thrive. Unhealthy relationships can cause increased stress and difficulty in all areas of life. 


These “Prepare & Enrich” workshop are designed to assess couples’ needs and relational strengths by analyzing factors that contribute to healthy relationships and to identify and correct characteristics associated with conflicted relationships. 


Through strategies aimed at maintaining healthy relationships and revitalizing stagnant relationships, participants will gain a deeper understanding of personalities, relationship stressors, as well as strength and growth areas that can lead to healthy relationships.


LGBTQ Identity & Purpose I: Spirituality, Character, Values - Support Group / 5 sessions  (Pre-register)


The 5-week, ninety-minute session is designed to help LGBTQ+ participants learn to articulate their own personal character, values, worldview and spirituality and how one’s attribute and character relates to healthy or unhealthy interactions while demonstrating tolerance and respect for various religious/spiritual perspectives, ideologies, and/or practices. 


Participants will through personal narratives, honoring individual experiences, create an environment where we can share/listen to stories, with special emphasis. By the end of the course, participants will discover greater self-awareness in being able to understand/frame/describe their own spirituality, experiences, and/or beliefs and by being able to answer the following questions:


  • What is most important to me?
  • What are some of my values or beliefs, at least right now?
  • How does my spirituality exhibit itself?
  • How healthy is my spirituality / worldview in relation to myself and others?


LGBTQ Identity & Purpose II: Recovering from Fundamentalism - Support Group / 5 sessions  (Pre-register)


Countless LGBTQ+ Individuals have lasting and devastating injuries from religious fundamentalism. This workshop / support group seeks to explore avenues for one to discover a productive process for recovery from the allure of fundamentalism, understanding the psychology of fundamentalism and how negatively it impacts the individual, relationships, families, and communities. This course is further designed to help participants discover and articulate what grounds them and affirms their dignity and self-worth. 


LGBTQ+ Sexuality & Intimacy: It’s Complicated - Workshop  (Pre-register)


LGBTQ+ relationships can take many forms and expressions. This workshop is centered on unique challenges in relationships involving sexual and gender minorities, particularly the experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Questioning communities.
